Q & A: Selflessness, Meditation, Spirituality

In today’s morning satsang, Paramahamsa Nithyananda (Swamiji) takes inquiries from Inner Awakening participants. One attendee asks how best to inspire others to receive Paramahamsa’s teachings. Paramahamsa replies that when we offer ourselves in compassion and desire to help others, those who are interested will just catch fire. A second attendee asks for explanation of “inner space” and wants to know when she will experience inner silence. Paramahamsa answers that when we close our eyes, what we feel as “me” is our inner space; and that silence can be experienced whenever we truly wish it. The final questioner wants to know whether greed is a danger on the spiritual path. Paramahamsa replies that if greed motivates us to progress on our path, doing required practice and exercise, then it is useful. Otherwise it is just negative selfishness.

Former Pastor John Loftus on Christianity

Luke Muehlhauser: commonsenseatheism.com John Loftus: I was a Christian apologist with several master’s degrees set for the express purpose of defending Christianity from intellectual attacks. I was not afraid of any idea, because I was convinced that Christianity was true and could withstand all attacks. I have taught both apologetical and philosophical classes for a few different Christian and secular colleges. I was in the “Who’s Who Among America’s Best Teachers” in 1996. I knew most of the arguments against Christianity, and as a philosophy instructor in a secular college I could debate both sides of most any argument. As a philosophy instructor, in many ways, I am a purveyor of doubt. Too many people have a superficial faith handed down from their parents. As a teacher my goal is to cause them to doubt much of what they believe, be it atheist or believer, or in between. Doing so is what’s needed for them to develop a deeper faith, and it allows them to see points of view they’ve never considered before, thus making them more tolerant of other people’s beliefs. One thing that I must do as a philosophy instructor is to eliminate from my students a smug, simplistic, and dogmatic belief system. Such beliefs are childlike and unbecoming of the adults they should become. Anyway, I have told people time and time again that I could teach philosophy until I was blue in the face so long as I knew I had a loving, caring, and faithful Christian community to fall back on after

Bart Ehrman interview - Hidden Christianity

In Forged, Ehrman reveals: The Apostle Peter was illiterate, and therefore could not have written two letters (1 & 2 Peter) credited to him in the Bible. Six of the Pauline letters in the New Testament are forgeries. The First Book of Timothy, known to be a forgery, is still used today to oppress women, and provides the Scriptural basis for the Roman Catholic Church’s refusal to ordain female priests. Posing the provocative argument that parts of the Bible contain intentional deceptions, and that some of its texts were deliberately and painstakingly crafted to further the agendas of Christians living after the apostles, Forged will again turn upside down what we “know” about the Bible. About the Author Bart Ehrman is the author of more than twenty books, including the New York Times bestselling Misquoting Jesus, God’s Problem, and Jesus, Interrupted. Ehrman is the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and is a leading authority on the Bible and the life of Jesus. He has been featured in Time and has appeared on NBC Dateline, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, CNN, History Channel, and other top media outlets. He lives in Durham, North Carolina. In Explosive New Book FORGED, Bible Scholar Bart Ehrman Exposes Deceptive and Misleading Forgeries in the New Testament Bart D. Atheist converts to Christianity says atheism lacks proof and evidence

creation.com Why do most atheists leave atheism? Go here and see www.shockawenow.net Go here go to chat room to see more of this Dear Shock, I haven’t been able to attend your debates or conferences lately beings ive been overwhelmed at the office lately. None the less in my time away I have been watching your videos, watching debates, reading Dr. Craigs books, and thoroughly researching Christianity. After all that I have come to the conclusion that the evidence for christ is to gargantuan to refute. I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done for me in my journey back to faith, which will be the title of my book I am writing. You’ve really opened my eyes to a far happier lifestyle that I am now living through Christianity. Jesus is always with you, and any non-believer can realize this if they get past the neurological disorder of denying him. And if they do, they will come to see as I did, that Jesus was always there with me, and now ive accepted him into my life. Thank you so much. Sincerely, Dr. Cameron D. Mohwinkle DDS MD ———- God bless you shockofgod, I don’t know where to start! My daughter, Mackenzie, was a very sweet and caring Christian girl until a few atheist girls from school befriended her. They brainwashed her into believing the madness of atheism (as you say — so true!!) and she started being extremely disrespectful and rebellious as atheists do. She broke my heart!! I took her to church every Sunday and youth service every Wednesday for almost

Early Christianity - Diversity, Division, Dogma (Professor Harland)

www.philipharland.com This course explores diversity in early Christian thought and practice by investigating various groups and writings traditionally viewed as “heretical”, marginal, or non-canonical. We will study these groups by looking at opponents addressed in canonical literature, by considering the so-called heresiologists (eg Irenaeus), and by studying early Christian writings that did not come to be included in the canon (namely the New Testament Apocrypha and Nag Hammadi writings). In identifying the various strands of Christianity, we will ask questions such as: What forms of Christianity do we encounter in the literature? How are these forms or groups related to one another? What are the key issues of debate among them? How might we plot these out on a “map” of early Christianity? In the process we will address theoretical and historiographical issues in the study of early Christianity, including problems with the concepts of “orthodoxy” and “heresy,” as well as issues relating to the category of “gnosticism.” In the first term we will focus attention on forms of Christianity in one particular region, Asia Minor, and in the second term we will concentrate on forms of Christianity reflected in the early Christian Apocrypha and gnostic writings.
